Pass Design

Working in carbon and alloyed ferrous and non-ferrous materials Quad Engineering can provide pass designs for a full range of:

• Special bar quality (SBQ) and merchant round, rod, square and hexagonal sections.
• Structural beam, channel and angle sections (standard, miscellaneous and wide flange).
• Flats.
• Large diameter rounds.
• Rebar (including slit rebar.)
• Rail, rail ties, tie plates and associated rail sections.
• Rail slitting.
• Special sections such as bevelled flats, grader blades, grader spine, signpost, fencepost, grape stake and track shoes.
• Sheet piling.

Our expertise allows us to analyse existing designs to facilitate improvements in rolling efficiency, roll costs and throughput.

Quad can conduct physical modeling of existing designs and of new designs prior to full scale commissioning.

Our design process includes:

• Developing a preliminary design within the limitations of the rolling equipment.
• Conducting a rolling simulation reviewing motor loads, torque and throughput.
• Establishing family tree and product flow drawings.
• Producing detailed pass groove drawings that include expected bar sizes, reduction factors and groove factors.
• Providing roll barrel drawings.
• On-site commissioning and start-up support.

The design process might also include providing mill setup sheets and where necessary roll stress analysis using FEA.
